THE SUNDIAL PORTRAIT
“Be as true to each other as this dial is to the sun.”
-Unknown

Self portraiture is a carefully composed, well thought out, and intended to create an ever lasting impression of oneself. In this day and age, where roughly over 93 million selfies are taken each day, it is important to me to slow down, think, and produce a photograph that is more than just the ‘quick’ snap, the current restrictions in place due to the global health crisis was the perfect opportunity to explore this further. The work consists of six (6) black and white portrait photographs over a six (6) hour span during social isolation period, the photographs will be forever a personal reminder of a period of time in my life, and something I hope never have to impacts us again.
a timeless style
My photographs preserve a hidden moment in time; I want my work to speak of the everyday experiences and interactions barbers come across. This series documents the culture of barbers and their shops; their pride and joy. The work consists of 20 square format documentary style photographs, a mixture between 120 mm black and white film photography, and digital photography. I have decided to photograph barbers because of their unique story... all from different backgrounds, races & generations of barbers, however they all share the same passion for their version of art (cutting hair).
